Equation (6) on p. 127 of Pace et al. (2006) contains an error. The corrected equation is

where {alpha} is a dimensionless measure of aperiodicity, variance is the variance in the calculated recurrence times, and Tmean is the mean recurrence time. The conclusions in this article are unaffected by this change because the error was only in the printed article and not in the codes used for the analysis.
