Comment on "microearthquake location: a nonlinear approach that makes use of a Simplex stepping procedure" by A. Prugger and D. Gendzwill

Abstract

This work discusses the concept and mathematical procedure of error estimation for the Simplex source location method. The precise formulas for the calculation of station residuals are derived for the absolute value method (L1 norm) and the least-squares method (L2 norm). Two other related problems, origin time and ill-conditioned matrices, are also discussed.
