Abstract
We develop a method of noise reduction for seismological data in which bursts of noise are detected and replaced with the use of a prediction error operator. The method is applied to the Alaskan earthquake gravimeter record of Slichter. Nearly all long-period energy can be attributed to transient noise in the signal. There is no evidence for a long-period core oscillation.
