Response of a viscoelastic sphere due to a point source at the center

DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES TEL-AVIV UNIVERSITY, RAMAT-AVIV, Israel

Abstract

The problem of the response to a pulse at the center of a solid sphere, assuming general linear viscoelastic behavior, is presented, and the formal series solution is given. The solution is computed for a sphere with Kelvin behavior in shear and compression, and the propagation and reflection of an attenuating spherical wave is shown. The series solution is shown to converge, and properties of the solution are discussed.
