Response spectra for Pahute Mesa nuclear events

ROBERT D. LYNCH

ENVIRONMENTAL RESEARCH CORPORATION, 813 NORTH ROYAL STREET (PO BOX 1061), ALEXANDRIA, VIRGINIA 22313

Abstract

Empirical equations for the prediction of pseudo-relative velocity response spectra (PSRV) are obtained from ground motions recorded at 64 seismic stations from 11 nuclear events detonated on Pahute Mesa at the Nevada Test Site (NTS). The spectra are related to the yield of the nuclear device and the distance between the source and receiver by multiple regression analysis. Exponents on yield and distance are derived at 40 separate periods in the period range from 0.05 to 2.469 seconds. Families of predicted mean PSRV curves are included to show the spectral development as a function of yield and distance.
