Abstract

The autocorrelation function and the power-spectral density function of twelve strong-motion earthquake and three underground nuclear explosion accelerograms are obtained using a digital computer. The physical implications of the results and their application in modeling ground accelerations are studied. Simulations by the spectral approach, using filtered stationary processes, and simulations by the correlation approach, using linear, particularly autoregressive processes, are discussed in some detail.
