Effect of an elastically-restrained boundary on dilatational wave radiation patterns

Y. T. HUANG

COLLINS RADIO COMPANY, DALLAS, TEXAS 75207

Abstract

In this paper, the effect of a boundary restraint, peculiar to the local geology, on dilatational wave radiation patterns is studied for an arbitrary combination of the Lamé constants of the Earth. Depending upon the degree of boundary restraint, significant change in radiation patterns can take place. This phenomenon is probably related to amplitude anomalies often observed in field records. General solutions are given for a homogeneous, isotropic half space.
