The determination of periods in seismic records

Abstract

A modification of standard methods to retrieve harmonic components in seismic signals is given. Variation in the number of terms in summation of harmonic components is suggested in order to obtain better suppression of "noise". As a result of this modification, results are obtained whose accuracy is greater than was previously possible. The estimates of the errors are also more realistic. A numerical example is given and the results compare very favorably to those obtained without our modification.
