ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE SERVICES ADMINISTRATION COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY, ROCKVILLE, MARYLAND
Abstract
S-wave polarization studies of the Parkfield, California earthquake of June 28, 1966, indicate that a type II or double couple focal mechanism best fits the available data. The direction of greatest stress derived from the S-wave solution is in general agreement with results derived from geological evidence.
