Standing waves in layered fluid half-space

I. N. GUPTA

DEPARTMENT OF GEOLOGY PANJAB UNIVERSITY, CHANDIGARH, India

Abstract

The existence of standing waves in a horizontally-layered fluid half-space is established for plane harmonic compressional waves propagating from below. The angle of incidence and the velocity-distribution within the layers are assumed to be arbitrary. Expressions are derived for the particle velocity at the free surface and at any given depth. The results show features similar to those for normally incident waves in a multilayered solid half space.
