Note on a type of surface waves traveling in a semi-infinite solid of varying elasticity and density

Abstract

The propagation of a type of waves similar to Love waves in a homogeneous semi-infinite medium with a single surface layer in which µ, {rho} both vary exponentially with the depth has been considered. The period equation has been solved numerically for the first mode only, and results have been compared with Jeffreys' values for Love waves.
